Bill 50 — Safety Codes Council Governance and Advisory Role Changes
This bill amends the composition of the Safety Codes Council to include experts in new home warranty coverage and representatives from the building industry and homeowners, and adds a new advisory duty to the Minister.
What changed
- The persons appointed to the Safety Codes Council must now include experts in or persons with experience in new home warranty coverage under the New Home Buyer Protection Act (Section 4(2)(b)).
- The Board of Directors must ensure that representatives of builders, warranty providers, insurers, and homeowners are appointed to the Council with respect to its duty to provide advice on new home warranty matters (Section 4(5)(b)).
- The Council is given a new duty to provide advice and recommendations to the Minister responsible for the New Home Buyer Protection Act upon request (Section 4(3)(d.01)).
